Trends, Entrants, and Developments (TEDs) Impacting Access: Business Capabilities—Data and Analytics, Digital, and Technology

I am Elizabeth Oyekan, PharmD, FCSHP, CPHQ, Vice President, Access Experience Team, Editor of All Access Newsletter. A year ago, we were deep into the COVID-19 pandemic and were rapidly adjusting to new ways of accessing healthcare virtually. COVID-19 has indeed become a catalyst driving the exponential use of technology and virtual healthcare resources, and leveraging data to make critical healthcare decisions in the last 12 months.

In this edition of the All Access Newsletter, we have asked our key expert ex-payers to provide insights into the trends and developments in Analytics and Technology business infrastructures and capabilities impacting access and the potential impact to payers, patients, and/or pharma.

  1. Sejal Jones, PharmD, Senior Director, shares how payers are increasingly leveraging data and analytics to dig deeper into trend drivers, develop financial models, and evaluate opportunities including partnerships being formed to leverage real-world data and evidence to optimize the decision-making process.
  2. Reta Mourad, PharmD, Senior Director, then takes us into the virtual engagement world—which has become an absolute necessity in healthcare to engage and interact with different stakeholders—including the challenges and opportunities experienced in this new virtual health environment.
  3. Hetty A. Lima, RPh, FASHP, Senior Director, describes some of the latest trends in the world of technology and artificial intelligence that will possibly impact drug access, including streamlining the formulary decision-making process, optimizing precision medicine, and even potentially expediting drug approvals.
  4. And, finally, Dan Danielson, MS, RPh, Senior Director, takes us into the world of value frameworks focusing on health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) and health technology assessment (HTA), including their scope and evolving influence in healthcare and access.

We believe you will find the evolution of these business capabilities and infrastructures in healthcare and their impact on access insightful as we navigate the payer landscape. As always, please feel free to drop me a note and let me know if you have a topic suggestion for the payer team to address, and we’ll do our best to cover it in a future edition.

Best regards,
